Student Art Commemorates Soil and Water Stewardship Week
For 47 years,
the nation’s 3000 local soil and water conservation districts have celebrated
Soil and Water Stewardship Week. The week was officially observed this year
between April 29 and May 6.
This year’s
theme, "Habitat for Life," reminds us that people, like all living
things, depend for their survival on the world around them. Wildlife, plants,
and people are equally dependent in needing healthy, safe places to live. As
responsible citizens, people must prevent the loss of healthy habitats by taking
positive actions.
To raise
awareness about the importance of natural resources, Colonial Soil and Water
Conservation District held a contest for area students. Students in local
schools created posters on the theme "Habitat for Life" that were
judged by the Directors and staff of the District. Items donated by area
businesses served as awards for the students.
The winners in
each division of the contest are listed below. The first place poster in each
category will be entered into the Virginia Association of Conservation Districts
statewide poster contest.
