Soil and Water Conservation District Directors

There are 47 soil and water conservation districts in Virginia.  Each district is directed by a board comprised of:

Locally elected directors- two per locality if more than one locality is represented

An extension agent appointed by the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Board (VSWCB)
An at-large director recommended by the local SWCD and appointed by the VSWCB

District Directors .... are citizens elected or appointed to three year terms of office.

District Directors .... are the local protectors and managers of local natural resources.

District Directors .... are not public employees and receive no salary.

District Directors .... serve voluntarily to assess local conservation needs and to encourage cooperative efforts in achieving district conservation goals.

Each Board may also appoint members of the community to serve as Associate Directors.  Associate Directors do not vote on board decisions, but augment the knowledge and experience of the Directors.
